80/20

Spec it for the driving you actually do — the commute, the school run, the odd weekend away — not the one big loaded trip you do twice a year. Nobody enjoys a daily-driven brick that's permanently set up for a trip it rarely takes. If the heavy stuff is rare, tell us straight and we'll build for the other 80%.

We build 2in and 3in only. Past 3in the ride falls off fast on these platforms for no real gain, and chasing stance over how it drives isn't what we do — so there's no 4in option here on purpose.

Front of the vehicle

Bar and winch hang off the front overhang — essentially all of that weight lands on the front axle.

Back of the vehicle

Tray, canopy, drawers, water — mounted behind the cab, so this loads mostly onto the rear axle and sets the spring rating.

Budget matters — my leaves are fine
Keep your existing leaf pack and just upgrade the shocks. We'll push shocks-only options — front only, rear only, or both — higher up the shelf below.

Tow ball weight sits almost straight on the rear axle. A weight-distribution hitch shifts some back to the tow vehicle's front — worth it above ~200kg.
How the recommendation is worked out

The same logic we'd run through in the shop, made explicit. It's a guide — the final spec is always confirmed against the vehicle before anything is built.

Axle loads

Each accessory has an average weight and a split between the axles based on where it sits. Front-mounted gear (bar, winch, lights) loads the front almost entirely; underbody gear is shared; anything behind the cab loads the rear, with a small amount carrying forward. Tow ball download is added straight to the rear.

Spring rating

  • Front — starts at the platform's stock rate and climbs with the weight added over the front axle. On Hilux we quote it as a coil rate in lb; on other platforms as a duty band.
  • Rear — leaf platforms get a duty tier (LD / MD / HD / XHD) from the added rear weight; coil-rear platforms get a rate band plus an adjustable panhard to re-centre the axle at lift.

Package

Your primary use, top priority and terrain build a profile across five traits — road manners, off-road control, load capacity, value and competition-grade damping. Each package we build for the platform is scored against that profile and the best fit is called, with price breaking any tie.

Supporting parts

Driven by front-end type and lift height: independent front ends at 2in+ need upper control arms and a diff drop to correct geometry and CV angles; live-axle fronts need caster correction; coil-rear needs a panhard. Big tyres and hard off-road use add bracing. Extended brake lines come in at 3in, or at the rear on 2in.
